We were in Varanasi during my annual photo tour, when Piers Ede contacted me regarding an interview for his blog called “The Indiaphile”. Piers had just posted his interview with National Geographic photographer, Steve McCurry so I must say that I was honored to be chosen for his next interview. Piers and I finally hooked […]
U.S. Funded Radio Station Begins Broadcasting in Southern Sudan
In the run-up to a key political referendum to decide whether the south splits from the north, a new locally based independent radio station has opened in Southern Sudan. Supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the new station is operated by the nonpartisan Sudan Radio Service (SRS) and provides daily news and […]
Ten Christmas Gift Ideas
There are some ordinary things that I use on a daily basis, and they are just so well made, comfortable, or user friendly that they make me happy every time I use them. So if you’re looking for a gift idea here are a few of the things I would suggest for the photographer/traveler in your life.
The Untouchable
Often the most memorable part of a trip has nothing to do with some famous annual event, or an iconic location in the country you’re visiting. Angkor Hospital For Children, Siem Reap Cambodia
Since 2001 I have done photography for the Angkor Hospital For Children in Siem Reap Cambodia. Most recently I photographed their Home Care program.

Pushkar After the Rain
What an amazing morning we had! We woke to crystal clear, star filled skies at 6:00 am and headed down to the fairgrounds. The light was truly spectacular.
Pushkar Photo Extravaganza Continues!
Yesterday it rained all day, which is unheard of for Rajasthan in November, but made for some wonderfully unique photos with great reflections and deep saturated colors (see yesterday’s post). In the afternoon we had a clear sky and luckily came across a rearing horse just as we were re-entering the fairgrounds!
Pushkar Fair: Morning Shoot
Our first morning shoot at Pushkar Fair started at 6:00 AM, with a quick trip from our tented camp, down to the fairgrounds. Before sunrise, the camel, cattle, and horse traders are waking up to their fireside morning tea. This is difficult subject to photograph due to extremely low light conditions. This would be the first real test of my new Nikon D3S’s. I set my ISO to 6400 and began shooting….
