Sorry folks I am swatting mosquitos and racing against a low battery warning on a very slow internet connection in Segou, a rural village, 250 Km from Bamako. All I have time to do is offer up the one photo, I will try to post more images and an explanation of what I’m shooting tomorrow. Meanwhile, let me tell you that Mali is awesome, and Freedom From Hunger’s programs are wonderful and inspiring! Check out www.FreedomFromHunger.org
Hey Buddy
I am with you in this one, I will be following you and imagine as if I was there following you around and learning.
Good luck in your assignments!
Cheers
Celso
Hi Karl
Love your stuff and usually check your site most days. Can you just give us a bit of info on how you are finding the new Nikons. Are they as good or better than your long-suffering Canons? No regrets swapping over? Things they are better on?
I am taking a year off work soon and will be travelling SE Asia shooting Humanitarian stuff, people etc. Will have my trusty D700. Do you find the weight gets a bit much sometimes? My D700 with the MB D10 grip is probably similiar to the weight of one of your D3’s (but you have two). By the time I throw my Nikkor 80-200 AF 2.8D on there I can really feel the weight in my Think Tank (holster type). I just wonder how you get on with two heavy bodies plus all the other stuff. I know you carry a computer too. I am thinking of taking my MacBook pro with me.
I know that Steve Mccurry complains about all the stuff he has to carry now he has come into the digital age.
Hope to hear from you soon – Phil
Hi Phil,
First of all thanks for following the blog.
Sorry for not replying to your comment back in July when I was in Mali
Actually I love the new Nikons, they are great in low light and I have gotten the focus system dialed-in now. No regrets swapping over!
I hope your year off in SEAsia shooting Humanitarian stuff goes well. Let me know where and when you’ll be there and perhaps our paths will cross.
Cheers,
Karl
