We’ve been enjoying some great photo opportunities so far and it’s only day three!
Today we spent the day photographing from our base of operations here in Mandalay. We photographed monks in window light at an ancient teak monestary
We have also been visiting several of my favorite local markets. These spots are well off the tourist tracks and when we arrive we are always a curiosity. I think the Burmese are at least as interested in us, as we are of them. Without a doubt, Myanmar has some of the most warm and friendly folks. With just a few words of Burmese, which we learned from our local guide, MM; the vendors and local folks are constantly greeting us with smiles.
The variety of spices available is mind boggling. Lorilynn, one of out tour guests is a professional chef, so she’s been cluing us in to all the amazing culinary offerings in the markets.
Along with the markets and monasteries we also had an opportunity to photograph local Burmese people wearing the traditional Thanaka, a face painting beauty technique, using a special powder made from the bark of a tree.
Man, wish we were there with you!
Looks like amazing fun!

I love the monk in the window light.
I am following you on this one.
As always, incredible pictures Karl. Can’t wait to go on a photo tour in Asia with you. In the meantime, I have to book your time for our new project! Hope all is well. Gustavo
Hey Karl,
Very nice shot of the young monk in the window light.
When you’re in Bagan and your visiting the Ananda temple,
please give my best regards to my friend Maung maung who
has a small photoshop at the entrance.
Keep up the good work.
Greetings,
Danny
