Pushkar Photo Extravaganza Continues!

Yesterday it rained all day, which is unheard of for Rajasthan in November, but made for some wonderfully unique photos with great reflections and deep saturated colors (see yesterday's post). In the afternoon we had a clear sky and luckily came across a rearing horse just as we were re-entering the fairgrounds!

Today’s cover shot of the rearing horse was shot with my 17-35 f 2.8 I set my exposure compensation to plus 1, selected a center focus point, zoomed out to 17mm, then held the camera near the ground pointing it upward to show the horse against the sky, and started shooting.

In the late afternoon, I like to break the rules and shoot into the light. This often requires positive exposure compensation (if you’re using any program mode other than manual). For this image I was set to plus .7

Shot into the sun

Shooting into the sun, often causes lens flare, which can be an effective element to add interest and drama to your image. In the above shot I used my 17-35mm F2.8  and plus .7 exposure compensation with my D3 set onmatrix metering.  One additional note: stopping down your lens as much as possible helps to create more of a starburst effect on the sun (or any strong light source).
