We’re having an absolutely fantastic time here in Siem Reap with our photography!
Marco Ryan, Gavin Gough, Matt Brandon and I are here with 14 participants for the first annual Angkor Photo Workshop. Frankly, I’m so busy that I have no time to blog it, so I’ll just post this one image and say…we wish you were here.
Wow Karl, what a great picture. The composition, color, mood, dof, everything!. This is exactly the type of photography I’ll be doing once we get to Africa. I hope for the opportunity to go on one of your tours and learn from you.
Q: Do you post edit, i.e. in Photoshop? My instincs say ‘no’. I look forward to when I get more photos straight from the sensor, as I see them. I really don’t like the idea of “Light it, shoot it, retouch it” as others say. I’d rather just light it and shoot it, ONCE! Practice, practice, practice…
Great photo Karl.

Wish I were there too!
Enjoy and say hello to Lisa and Ruti for me.

Hi Rodney,
In answer to your question…yes, it’s straight out of the camera. The lighting was phenomenal at this location with doorway light on the monk in the foreground, while the other monks in the background are illuminated by a window. When I saw the opportunity to make the image, I knew it would be a good one, and I must say I am pleased.
Thanks for your comment Rodney, I hope you’ll join me on a workshop some day.
Cheers,
Karl
