Hi folks. I promise I’ll write something comprehensive about my Angkor Photo Workshop, but I’m just to busy to do much writing right now. Tonight is our mid-trip, “best of” slide show. It’s going to be amazing, I just know it.
Yesterday we visited Angkor Wat; it rained, it was beautiful; I love the rain here in Cambodia, it does something magical. Everything glistens, there’s a freshness to the air, tourists disappear and the Cambodian children emerge, to frolic and play.
I was lucky enough to find a group of children jumping into the reflecting pond at Angkor Wat….call it good Karma.
God, I love this place…wish you were here.
Enjoy.
Tim Dobbins; a student at Angkor Photo Workshop was photographing the jumping Cambodian children with me. He just sent the photo below, which captures their excitement, when I showed them their pictures. Photo courtesy of Tim Dobbins.
Really fun shots, Karl – I’ve been doing a 31 Day photo challenge for July and interestingly, today’s subject is “jumping”! Gonna post a link to this for others to enjoy. What joy those children exude!
This is such a FUN FUN PHOTO – gosh, I wish I was married to this photographer and he would take the time to put some of his photos up on the ‘blank’ walls that I have in my home. I would be so proud to be surrounded by this fellows extremely BEAUTIFUL, AWESOME, TOTALLY FUN,EXCELLENT PHOTOS!! Preferably, the smiling children ones. Wouldn’t a collage of them make you smile every time you looked at it? One can only continue to have hope.
Does anyone ‘out there’ know how I can possibly acquire his work?? I am desperate for any info./hints/suggestions, etc.
I am extremely pleased that the Premier workshop sounds as if it a success! Cannot wait to hear all of the ‘gory’ details!!
Love to ‘you know who you are’!!
Keep up the good work. I’m going back to Angkor Wat in September. 5th time in 18 months. I know what you mean about the rainy season as I was there in July and August, 2010. Much better than in the dry season, as its far too dusty and brown then.( March 2010 and January 2011)
Hope the capture the sunrise on the Equinox, weather permitting.
Very nice! I love the position of the boys in both photos. The wide angle really accentuates the second boy’s skinny body. I’ve come to expect nothing but the most remarkable photos from you. Sounds/looks like the workshop is going well – curious what the different participants are working on.
I LOVE these images. As usual, you’ve captured the joy and decisive moment.
I so wish I were with you guys!

Dear Katy, Peter and Kat, thanks for taking the time to comment! I know you all would be having a wonderful time here. Cambodia is an amazing place for photography and when in a group of such enthusiastic, like-minded individuals like we have here, it’s such a joy. I can’t tell you how excited we are to see the participants producing such amazing photos. We will be posting the winning slide shows from last night to this blog.
Cheers,
Karl
Dear Karl,
Great pictures. I have been to Angkor my self, but never during this time of the year. I asked your colleague, Brandon, the same question, and I must ask you: whick lenses are you using the most on this trip?
John,
Im not trying to steal Karls thunder, but, when I have been at Angkor Wat and the temples,I use my D3 and 14-24 F2.8, 35mm F2 ,50mm F1.4, 135mm F2, 300mm F2.8 and also with a TC14E. Also use my Nikon 70~200 F2.8 on my D2Xs.
I dont have a 24-70 mm lens,as, I seem to shoot either extra wide, or with telephoto. I could have used my 500mm F4 on top of Angkor Wat to photograph some of the Apsaras as well, if I had that lens with me.
Only 60 days , and I will be back there again.
Wonderful shots ~ wonderful kids ~ wonderful place…
I, too, LOVE it. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Have you ever been to Indonesia Karl, here also could see the boy who jumps into the river like this picture, but I can not get as good pictures as this,, Wow, amazing
