As I write this post, I’m working on a myriad of last minute details for the upcoming Angkor Photo Workshop. Last week, I finished my first ever Philippines photo tour, and my brain is still in “Philippines mode” so I thought I would share some “Philippines news” with all of you. Drum roll please………..this is […]
The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Sudan
I was just informed that an image I shot in Sudan, for the Education Development Center was recently used in the Chronicle of Philanthropy in a story by Nicole Wallace. It’s always rewarding to see my images being used to raise awareness about the work of my NGO clients! Here’s a short summary of the […]
Philippines: Portraits from Bohol
Hi everyone. My ability to blog during this trip has been limited, mostly because this is my first official photo tour here. Although I scouted this trip two times, I still feel a responsibility to double and triple check things, to ensure that everything goes smoothly. I find myself spending an inordinate amount of time […]
Historic Vigan, a UNESCO World Heritage City
We’ve now arrived in Vigan, an amazing, UNESCO World Heritage city. Established in the 16th century, Vigan is the best-preserved example of a planned Spanish colonial town in Asia. Its architecture reflects the coming together of cultural elements from elsewhere in the Philippines, from China and from Europe, resulting in a culture and townscape that […]
Sagada: Hanging Coffins & the Road to Cervantes
Sagada is a small, seldom visited town nestled in the mountains, about 6 hours drive, north of Baguio. The highway leading to Sagada is one of the most scenic stretches of road in the Philippines. Sagada is inaccessible by large buses due to the narrow winding road. It was slow-going most of the way but […]
Manila to Baguio to Sagada an amazing road trip
Leaving Manila after a few days of some amazing street photography we headed out in our private bus, north towards Baguio, the summer capital of Luzon. I’ll drop in two final portraits from the streets of Manila, just because I want you all to know that the Philippines is such a great place to meet […]
Philippines Photo Tour off to a Great Start
Our first annual Philippines Photo tour started today, on Philippine’s Independence day. We visited historic Intramuros and Quiapo. The streets of Manila are full of the most friendly, warm and charming people that you will ever have the pleasure to meet. As our photo tour group moved along; at every turn we were greeted with […]
Senegal Day 3: Saving for Change Group Meeting
It’s 11:30 pm, it’s been a long day…shooting for NGOs usually means long days. We got back to the hotel tonight at around 9:00 pm, grabbed a bite to eat (mutton) and then Brent and I sat here and edited, blogged, uploaded, wrote captions, did research and caught up on email. Mind you, I am not complaining..I love my job, it’s the best job in the world, but it’s not always as easy or glamorous as it sounds.
Freedom From Hunger Senegal, Day 2:
Day two: I’m with a small delegation from Freedom from Hunger here in Senegal to document Freedom From Hunger/USOFORAL’s programs. Our group includes Brent Farrar, Communications Manager and Mamadou Diallo, (aptly named “Denzel Washington” for his striking resemblance to the actor), Freedom From Hunger’s Regional Director of West Africa
Ziguinchor, Senegal, Assignment: Freedom From Hunger
We woke early this morning in Dakar to catch a flight over the Gambia to Ziguinchor, southern Senegal. Zinguinchor is the capital and the chief town of the Casamance area of Senegal, lying at the mouth of the Casamance River. It has a population of over 250,000. It is the second city of Senegal, but […]
