Sorry for the lack of posts recently, but the internet availability in Vigan and Sagada isn’t sufficiently fast to upload images. We’re now in Manila after our tour through northern Luzon’s picturesque UNESCO world heritage city of Vigan and the mountain village of Sagada. Today I’ll be posting images from Vigan.
Traveling to Vigan, requires a very long ride or a short 1 hour flight from Manila. We chose the flight, which arrives at the closest airport in the town of Laoag and then took a two hour ride south to reach our destination.
Vigan is the capital of the Province of Ilocos Sur and is one of the few Hispanic towns left in the Philippines. Vigan is well known for its cobblestone streets, and a unique architecture that fuses Philippine and Oriental building designs and construction, with colonial European architecture.Vigan also boasts a long history of pottery production and a small but thriving weaving industry.
The horse drawn carriages (Calesas) that ply the cobblestone streets of Vigan give visitors a feel of having stepped back in time. Former Philippine president Elpidio Quirino, the sixth president of the Philippines, was born in Vigan.

Great capture of emotions and routine life!
Cheers!
I love the third pic of the series (the one with a motorikshaw turning out of a street), the feeling of motion is great. Actually, I prefer it to the firs image.
Besides this particular post, thank you for your website – I’ve been visiting it every so often for quite some time (even though I hadn’t left any commentaries before) and always found it inspiring for my own amateur practice.
