During the first full moon of November, India’s Pushkar Fair, Asia’s largest camel and livestock market springs to life in the sleepy, picturesque, lakeside town of Pushkar. An ancient religious town, in the Thar desert of Rajasthan, provides an almost surreal backdrop for this unique event. Photographing Pushkar Fair is a once-in-a-lifetime event. Few photo opportunities can match the volume or diversity of image possibilities.
The Pushkar Fair is, in itself, enough to justify an expedition, but on this trip we will also be visiting other fascinating destinations such as Delhi, Jaisalmer, Jaipur and Jodhpur. We’ll began in Delhi, the heartbeat of Northern India and took time to explore ancient forts, wander the markets, and experience the history surrounding both the old and new sections of the city.
Now we’re in Jodhpur, “the blue city” and tomorrow we head to Jaisalmer.
For now, enjoy these 23 images from Delhi and Jodhpur
Man at spice market proudly displays his Polaroid photo, a gift from tour participant, Roseanne.
There’s a story coming about the image above, I’ll write about it in my next blog post…
Beautiful images, Karl. They bring back wonderful memories.
Is that the spot McCurry took his picture? Where is the hand print?
Great images. Lovely colors.

Hi Steve, I thought you might notice the similarity. Yes, that’s the same spot and I’ll be writing a short story of our experience there yesterday. Stay tuned. Thanks, Karl
Thank you, Karl!! You know I love seeing these. Especially Jodhpur and Jaiselmer. Can’t beat those wonderful colors!!
Funny, I thought so too about the boy running. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the story.
And why is it that I keep hearing Peter Gabriel in my head looking at that opening shot?
Beautiful work!
Thanks for the comment Kim!
