After visiting Can Tho in the Mekong Delta our group traveled north to explore the azure beaches of Danang and the historic and beautifully photogenic town of Hoi An. Hoi An was an important Vietnamese trading center in the 16th and 17th centuries. In 1999, Hoi An’s old town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site as a well-preserved example of a Southeast Asian trading port with buildings that display a unique blend of local and foreign influences.

After photographing Hoi An, we headed northward to Hanoi to experience a completely different “Vietnam”. In Hanoi, we shot the bustling old quarter from our boutique hotel, right in the heart of the action. We also had the chance to visit Ho Chi Minh’s tomb, and even made some free time to avail ourselves to some of the best shopping in Southeast Asia. It’s here in Hanoi where the silk and lacquer ware is most plentiful and inexpensive.

Love the photo of the woman at the cafe. So nice of her to wear that red hat and carry that green bag and sit so perfectly poised for the shot. Also love the fish heads :0)

Thanks Kat, serendipity at its best, she was just there and I grabbed two shots, one before she noticed me, another afterwards. Glad you liked the fish too!

Just reviewing these a second time – I’m sure you noticed the boy sticking his tongue out at you in the last photo?

Indeed, that’s why I put that photo at the end of the post 🙂
