Ladakh (“land of high passes”) is a region in Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir that  extends from the Kunlun mountain range to the Himalayas, inhabited by people of mostly Tibetan descent. It is one of the most sparsely populated regions in India and its culture and history are closely related to that of Tibet.

Bounded by two of the world’s mightiest mountain ranges, the Great Himalaya and the Karakoram Ladakh is indeed a mystical and enchanting destination, steeped in rugged beauty which awaits the most intrepid and adventurous travelers.

It is said that only in Ladakh can a man sitting in the sun with his feet in the shade suffer from sunstroke and frostbite at the same time.

As promised here’s another set of images from my recent Ladakh scouting trip. If you are interested in joining me for the photo tour in 2018 please follow this link. Enjoy

    Looks like a magical place.

I’m curious if the big buildings are like the Dzongs in Bhutan housing both the government and the monetary/temple complexes.

The people who go on your trips there are lucky.

Hi Susan, thanks for the comment and question…no, unlike Bhutan, in Ladakh, they are only used as monasteries and not government buildings
