Here’s the second set of images from the September 2014 Amazing Myanmar Photo Tour which ended on September 23. The following images are from Bagan and the surrounding villages and markets. Bagan, Myanmar is located in an active earthquake zone and had suffered from many earthquakes over the ages, with at least 400 recorded earthquakes between 1904 and 1975. The last major earthquake came on 8 July 1975 in Bagan, Myinkaba, and Nyaung-U. The quake damaged many temples, severely and irreparably. Today, depending on who you talk to, there is somewhere between 2300 to 4000 temples and pagodas remaining.
Enjoy these 24 images, including the one set-up, orchestrated shot of the two monks, some light rays and two red umbrellas.

Thanks DV, see you soon!
What is your secret to the light rays? Glad to see a Fuji on your trip.
Hi Rodney, the secret is incense sticks and locally acquired dry leaves & grass.
What a lovely set of images, Karl. I really like the one of the novice monks in the rays of light. That was a really tough situation for me to capture (not a single “keeper”), so I appreciate how beautifully you captured it. And I love your photo of the woman in the market with the baby on her lap. What a sweet moment.
Thanks Barbara, the recent “rays of light/monk photo” was actually quite a bit easier than the one situation we faced before, so don’t feel bad. This time the lighting was more even and less contrasty. Thanks also for the nice comment on the woman with the baby, she was fanning the child to keep him/her cool and comfortable, it was a sweet moment 🙂
