More images from the Jim Cline Photo Tours 2015 Amazing Myanmar Photo Tour. The following 19 photographs include images from Bago (south of Yangon) and Mandalay.

Once capital of southern Myanmar, Bago lies just 50 miles northeast of Yangon on the old highway to Mandalay. Bago is literally chocked full of monuments and temples, many of which are centuries old, but have been beautifully and extensively restored over the years. Bago also hosts an assortment of fascinating local markets, rarely visited by tourists. Our trip to Bago was our first foray out from Yangon city.

After visiting Bago, the group returned to Yangon for a sunset photo shoot at Shwedegon Pagoda (as seen in my previous blog post). The following day we headed to Mandalay, where we spent several days exploring the area. Our first photo shoot in Mandalay occurred even before we checked into the hotel, when we stopped to visit a small village between the airport and downtown Mandalay.

Later the same afternoon, at one of the temples we visited, my good friend and long-time Myanmar guide, MM,  found two novice monks that were agreeable to pose for photographs.  We spent about 45 minutes with the novices and in the end, everyone came away with some nice images, and perhaps a better understanding of portrait lighting, composition, the use of focus tracking/AI-Servo and the benefits of having a motor-drive with a relatively high frame rate 🙂
