In the pre-dawn hours, down at the “stadium”, hot-air balloons are being prepared for take off. This rare sight attracts a fair amount of attention by locals and tourists alike.<\/p>\n

Everywhere, there are interesting faces to photograph.\u00a0 Some of the wealthy Rajasthani ranchers wear a fair amount of gold jewelry, which they are happy to show off.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

As usual, I am attracted to smokers. This man was crouching near one of the camel watering troughs.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Adjacent to the mela grounds (where the livestock is), is Pushkar town, it’s a religious pilgrimage center and loads of Indians flock here for the full moon festival.<\/p>\n

I’m usually happier with uncomplicated images, however this shot contains many elements that are part of the “story” of what mornings are like in Pushkar…the fire, the man tying his turban, a man lighting a match, the horse in the background, and the arm in the foreground adding hay to the fire.<\/p>\n

Our first morning shoot at Pushkar Fair started at 6:00 AM, with a quick trip from our tented camp, down to the fairgrounds. Before sunrise, the camel, cattle, and horse traders are waking up to their fireside morning tea. This is difficult subject to photograph due to extremely low light conditions. This would be the first real test of my new Nikon D3S’s.
