During my layover at New York&#8217;s JFK International Airport I photographed our Boeing 737 waiting at the departure gate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I&#8217;ve been having a lot of fun with a new iPhone app called Pano. Pano allows you to stitch together\u00a0 a series of successive vertical shots taken with your iPhone. It&#8217;s simple, effective and fun.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The image of the airplane waiting at the gate is made up of three vertical images. All of the &#8220;merging&#8221; takes place automatically in your phone, no additional work or software needed, it&#8217;s astounding!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Pano<\/strong> is made by <strong>Debacle Software<\/strong>, a three-man operation consisting of<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Adam Cohen<\/strong> (image processing guru),<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Julian Lepinski<\/strong> (iPhone coder supreme), and <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Eric Akaoka<\/strong> (rockstar graphic designer). <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Debacle<\/strong> is based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/app\/pano\/id293709029?mt=8\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4131\" title=\"pano\" src=\"http:\/\/karlgrobl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pano.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"243\" height=\"179\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karlgrobl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pano.jpg 243w, https:\/\/karlgrobl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pano-162x120.jpg 162w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 243px) 100vw, 243px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tips for shooting panos:<\/h1>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Practice makes perfect<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Pano<\/strong> is an advanced tool, but sometimes you may not get the results you expect.\u00a0 Try to experiment and just have fun; after your first few panos, you&#8217;ll be a natural. Here are a few quick tips to get you going:<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Distance<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Pano<\/strong> works best when the objects in the scene are far away; this helps keep angles in line at the edges of each photo. I&#8217;m just uploading some random stuff from my walk around town after lunch here in Dakar so that you can get the feel of the place. Dakar is a bit like Bamako Mali but seems a more modern, cleaner, and more relaxed. There are plenty of late model cars and modern buses plying the streets.
