Day 2 of the Myanmar photo tour took us from Yangon to Mandalay via an early morning flight. On the way from Mandalay airport to town, we made our usual stop at a typical Burmese village to do a bit of exploration and photography. The small village is split \u00a0in half by a river. Local boatmen provide a ferry service from one side to the other. \u00a0We spent about 1 hour exploring the modest homes, and small school. Before returning to the bus to travel further to the town of Amarapura, where we photographed \u00a0workers at a factory that produces alms bowls for Buddhist monks. We photographed some workers pounding metal, cut from 55 gallon drums, into the unique shape of the typical Burmese alms bowl and other craftsman making the lacquer covers that surround the metal bowls.<\/p>\n

\u00a0In the afternoon we visited the Golden Palace monastery where some beautiful children were selling floral necklaces. The Golden Palace monastery is one of my favorite places because the carvings on the walls provide a wonderful backdrop for photographing people, whether it be monks or the little girls who sell flowers. The lighting at this particular monastery is nothing short of magical.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow we travel by boat down the Ayeyarwaddy River to Mingun.<\/p>\n
