It’s been an amazing third day, here at the Kumbh Mela. Near the river, we photographed a procession of newly initiated Naga Sadhus and then followed them into their Ashram. I love these challenging, fast-paced, high adrenaline journalistic situations.  I would like to share 15 of my favorite images with you. I hope you enjoy viewing the images as much as I had capturing them! I can’t wait to see what happens on February 10th, the biggest bathing day of this year’s Kumbh Mela.

FABULOUS! Esp love the first one, the telephoto one with the 3 shaved heads, the water with the boats and torches, the boys in front of the smoking pots, the strange looking children (?) with fancy headdresses in the back of the bike and dreadlock man (sadhu?). Glad to see you are having so much fun. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Karl,

    Great pictures!

Did you come across Hindustan Unilever’s advertisements on rotis (breads) at the Kumbh Mela?

    Quite remarkable Karl.
My favorite: the children in the back of the bike.
You are right there amongst the crowds.
    Have a great voyage.

Even the three adolescents are positively riveting–with an open fly no less. We’re stuck in two feet of wet snow, and half way around the world you are out there in the hot riot of sadhus!
