Less than half the
world's population has access to health care compared to 98.8% in the
most developed countries. Founded in 1986, in an attempt to remedy this
problem, Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO), a private, non-profit, non-sectarian
voluntary organization headquartered in the United States, is dedicated
to improving the availability and quality of health care in developing
countries through training and education. Physicians from all over the
united states volunteer for Health Volunteers Overseas programs, travel
at their own expense, and work in training programs located in 25 developing
countries in the Americas, Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe.
