Siti (age 28) was
swept away by a wall of water that inundated her small village near
Meulaboh. She was carried several hundred yards by the wave before being
able to cling to a tree. Siti feels lucky that she and her family survived.
Her home was
lifted off its foundation, moved 25 feet before coming to rest against
a line of palm trees. Now she rummages through what's left and ponders
the difficult days ahead.
A solidly constructed mosque in town fared a bit better, although the
surrounding neighborhood was decimated.
