Siti (age 28) was swept away by a wall of water that inundated her small village near Meulaboh. She was carried several hundred yards by the wave before being able to cling to a tree. Siti feels lucky that she and her family survived. Her home was lifted off its foundation, moved 25 feet before coming to rest against a line of palm trees. Now she rummages through what's left and ponders the difficult days ahead.

A solidly constructed mosque in town fared a bit better, although the surrounding neighborhood was decimated.
