Electricity concers and solutions while traveling
Electricity is alwas a consideration, so be sure to bring plug adapters. Don't confuse a plug adapter with a power converter though. These days most computer, digital camera battery rechargers, AA and AAA NIMH battery chargers and other items, run on dual voltage, so you probably don't need a power converter.(check the back of your equipment or call the manufacturer to be sure). My Sony Vaio laptop works all over the world using only plug adapters, because Sony's AC adapter handles between 100 and 240 volts of input. (see photo below)
I don't carry a power converter or invertor, but I do keep plenty of plug adapters on hand which allow me to plug in just about anywere in the world. There are some websites that can help you determine what style plug you need for what country, or you can buy an "assortment pack" in most travel stores. DC to AC power inverters work great if you are going to be traveling by car (fitted with a working cigarette lighter). Power Inverters work by converting 12 Volt DC power into 110 volts AC. They’re great tools to run computers cell phones and battery chargers from your car or in areas where you don’t have electricity!

Another little secret I have is a simple adapter available at Home Depot and similar places...it's a lightbulb plug, screw in adapter. Some cheap hotels don't have a place to plug anything in...but most have a light, which means you can unscrew the lightbulb and voila, with this adapter you can get power !!!! I use a single plug adapter like the one on the left, and there is a larger dual plug model which is readiily available too...check around they will run you about $1 or $2

There are many internet sites that list what plub adapters you need for specific countries, so do a google search or just purchase a "multi pack" at your local travel store. Another option is to purchase them at airports, but that's usually more expensive.
