The devastation in Banda Aceh and Meulaboh extends inland, in some places, as far as 5 kilometers. Displaced fishing boats and demolished homes have created a surreal landscape of juxtapositions. Survivors of the earthquake and the killer waves pick through piles of rubble in what used to be busy neighborhoods, now reduced to junkyards.
